According to the City of Bellevue, council members in September approved the creation and installation of 5 additional “wayfinding kiosks” to help downtown pedestrians navigate to significant cultural, entertainment, shopping, transit, and civic attractions.

The new kiosks which can be found throughout the Downtown corridor cost $73,695 and will be paid for through a federal grant, administered by Sound Transit. Wayfinding is considered a key element of an established, complex downtown, and the installations are seen as contributing to the character of public spaces.

4 wayfinding kiosks were installed last spring along the pedestrian corridor and NE 6th Street. The new kiosks are located on Main Street, Bellevue Way, at 110th Ave. NE at NE 10th St., and near the Bellevue Transit Center. Like the kiosks already in place, the new ones feature a downtown map, a panel that tells a story related to the kiosk location, and directional signs to various destinations. 3 of the new stations will also include the same tree-like form of forged and fabricated steel that look like branches growing from the tops of the older kiosks. For questions and feedback contact Kevin McDonald, Senior Planner, at kmcdonald@bellevuewa.gov.

Snowboard Season is officially here!

Snowboard Connection has been in Seattle since 1990 and in Bellevue since September 2005. This year they have moved their Bellevue location into a great new spot on Main Street. “SnoCon”, as its regulars have dubbed Snowboard Connection, is Seattle and Bellevue’s mecca for snowboarders. Practically every inch of SnoCon’s store is full with outdoor wear, boots, bindings, optics, and boards of every size, shape and make.

The store’s commitment to the outdoors doesn’t end there. SnoCon’s repair shop will put any board right and they offer great winter ready tune-ups. The store also stocks a healthy selection of skateboards and surfboards to liven up those otherwise idle summer months. They have the highest quality selections of gear for both men and women.

One of the best things about Snowboard Connection is that every employee has a real passion for snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing or some sort of board sport! Staff is knowledgeable and a great resource.

Where do you like to get your Snowboard gear?

See you on the mountain!

Red velvet with bourbon cream cheese, lemon meringue, triple coconut, and chocolate graham cracker are just some of the exciting and fun flavors that Trophy offers up at their new digs. Let’s be honest…these aren’t just cupcakes, these are fine works of art that are baked fresh every morning, hand crafted with the highest quality ingredients such as Valrhona cocoa powder, Belgian callebaut chocolate, Madagascar bourbon vanilla, and European sweet cream butter.

Is your mouth watering yet? Which ones have you tried?

You can indulge in the normal-sized cupcakes, but my personal favorites are the “guilt free” minis that almost seem too-fancy-to-eat! Plus, the minis give you an opportunity to sample even more of their imaginative and seasonal offerings.

Owners Jennifer Shea and husband Michael Williamson opened their first Trophy Cupcakes in February of 2007 and currently have stores in Wallingford, University Village, and with their newest location now in Bellevue. Shea, a lifelong baker with a degree in nutrition, is always collaborating with her bakers, developing new flavors, and keeping ideas fresh. Their team does a great job and is sure to please with excellent customer service, giving you the feeling that you’re special just for coming in to look. More then a few times I have seen customers lining up and leaving with big smiles on their faces.

If you are having a celebration or event, make it unique with custom cupcakes designed exclusively for you and your group; then find everything else you need to make your party special, including cards, and imported paper decorations. I have used Trophy for numerous events and occasions, and they always impress. I love their attention to detail and their displays always steal the show.

Come by, say hello, and see why Trophy Cupcakes is the talk of The Shops at the Bravern.

Parking & Directions: For convenience, take the “Ruby” elevator to Level 3 or use the valet in the 110th Ave NE arrival court.

The widely anticipated David Barton Gym at The Bravern in Downtown Bellevue is now open for members, workouts and tours. With close to 40,000 square feet on 2 levels, the space is full of top of the line cardio equipment, weights, group exercise rooms, and a gorgeous Pilates studio. This is not your Pro Club where you might go for the family swim class or a gym chain with a manufactured feeling, but if you’re serious about results, classes, and training you should feel comfortable at DBG.

As you make your way through The Bravern parking garage maze, find the “amethyst” elevator and it will take you directly to the unique lobby of the gym. Much has been said about the exciting interior design…As you walk in the long front entryway you see the rounded walls that remind of a skateboard half-pipe. The smoothie bar is still in the works, and they have a small retail section with an eclectic assortment of items.

Six Pack Attack, Ass Blast, Pain & Pleasure, and Yoga for Jocks are just a few of the catchy names and cool classes that David Barton Gym is offering free with membership. I have tried about a half dozen of the classes, including Pilates, and have to say I am impressed. They have a huge selection of classes at all times of the day. With a background in fitness, I can appreciate that in most cases the group exercise instructors are the personal trainers. Seems like a good way to take a “test drive” to see if you like their style and energy before committing to buying training sessions and also a great way for the trainers to build relationships with future clients. I can tell they are focused on results and I am looking forward to my complimentary training session.

The gym is robustly staffed, kept in great order, and is immaculate. The Cardio Theater on every piece of their new Life Fitness cardio equipment is a huge bonus. Time flies doing cardio with a built-in TV and iPod docking station on my treadmill, bike, or elliptical. Bathrooms and locker rooms are well stocked with fluffy white towels, top notch body wash, shampoo/conditioner, razors, Listerine…you name it. The upscale locker rooms, sauna, and steam room are amazing and make you feel like you are visiting a 5-star salon & spa.

While I haven’t seen any of Seattle’s A-list celebrities pumping iron or taking classes, I have seen some Project Managers from Microsoft, marketing folks from Expedia, and the occasional soccer mom from Bellevue. Members are not pretentious, but regular people that are friendly and offer up the occasional smiling hello. No attitude from employees, but instead a friendly knowledgeable staff with people from all walks of life and fitness backgrounds.

On my adventure to “Look Better Naked,” next classes on the list to try are Guns and Rope Burn…See you at the gym!
